UVM’s Schafzahl, Michigan’s Beniers & St. Cloud’s Perbix Top January Honors

Here are the men’s and women’s monthly honorees and runners-up for January as chosen by the Hockey Commissioners Association

playerWomen’s Player of the Month: Theresa Schafzahl, SR F, University of Vermont (Weiz, Austria)

Schafzahl led the NCAA in goals and points as she went 9-8-17 in nine contests. She enjoyed six multi-point games as the Catamounts went 8-1 in January, punctuating the success with a 2-1 win over then #1 Northeastern, ending NU’s 20-game unbeaten streak.

Sophie Jacques, SR D, Ohio State, (Toronto, ON) (6 GP, 5-9-14, 2.3 PPG)

playerMen’s Co-Player of the Month: Matty Beniers, SO F, University of Michigan (Hingham, MA)

Beniers was a major reason the Wolverines went 7-1 against a tough schedule that included four games against nationally-ranked UMass and Minnesota. His line in those games was 5-9-14.

playerMen’s Co-Player of the Month: Nick Perbix, SR D, St. Cloud State (Elk River, MN)

Recorded 2-10-12 in just five games, eight of those points coming in a sweep of Miami, including a 6-point night (1-5-6)

Runners-Up: Julian Napravnik, SR F, Minnesota State (Bad Nauheim, Germany) (9 GP, 6-8-14)
Chris Theodore, SR F, AIC (Beaconsfield, PQ) (11 GP, 4-8-12)

playerWomen’s Rookie of the Month: Lily Delianedis, SO F, Cornell University (Edina, MN)

Registered eight points via a line of 5-3-8 in seven games, including four points in games against nationally ranked Yale (1-0-1) and Clarkson (1-2-3). She was a solid +8 on the month.

Runner-Up: Abby Newhook, FR F, Boston College (St. John’s, NF) (7 GP, 5-4-9, 1.3 PPG)

playerMen’s Rookie of the Month: Ian Carpentier, SO F, Yale University (Worcester, MA)

Carpentier averaged 1.33 PPG in the month of January, goiing 6-2-8 in the Elis’ six contests. He was influential in Yale’s three-game unbeaten stretch in mid-month, going 5-1-6 in wins over RPI and Union and a tie with Colgate.

playerWomen’s Goaltender of the Month: Jessie McPherson, SO G, University of Vermont (Chatham, ON)

McPherson went 6-0 in January, with a 1.00 GAA and a save percentage of .963. She allowed a single goal or less in five of the six outings with her highlights being a 20- save shutout at Holy Cross and a 35-save effort in knocking off then #1 in the country Northeastern, 2-1. That Cats’ road win ended a 20-game unbeaten streak for NU.

Allie Kelley JR G, Saint Anselm (East Berne, NY) (4 GP, 1.71 GAA, 2-1-1, .952)

playerMen’s Co-Goaltender of the Month: : Yaniv Perets, FR G, Quinnipiac University (Dollard des Ormeaux, PQ)

Perets allowed just three goals in five games, recording three shutouts as the Bob- cats flirted with a #1 in the nation ranking. QU went 4-1 on the month, the one loss a tough 2-1 setback at Cornell’s Lynah Rink. Perets had a 0.59 GAA and a save percentage of .970.

playerMen’s Co-Goaltender of the Month: Jakub Dobeš, FR G, The Ohio State University (Ostrava, Czech Republic)

Had a 5-1-2 record while averaging 39 saves per game. His numbers: 1.71 GAA and a save percentage of .957. He capped off the month with a 51-save shutout (6-0) at Penn State.
