Women's Honors: HCA Honors Outstanding Performances for January

NCAA women’s ice hockey got back to a full schedule in January and the top performanes were turned in by veterans, freshmen and twin sisters from Clarkson University. All are recognized with monthly honors by the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association.
Women’s Forward of the Month: Abbey Murphy, GR, F, Minnesota
(Evergreen Park, IL)
Murphy led the NCAA with 27 points (16-11-27) in just eight games played. That is an average of 3.4 points per game. She had three hat tricks and a four goal game. She is now tied for Minnesota’s all-time goal scorer. Murphy will represent Team USA in the Olympics.

Women’s Co-Goalies of the Month: Samson Frey, FR G, Yale
(Northport, NY)
Frey burst on to the scene with a 10-0-0 month for Yale, allowing 0.97 goals per game and recording a save percentage of .950. Against nationally-ranked opponents Colgate, Cornell and Northeastern, the first-year netminder stopped 84 of 85 shots and had two shutouts.
Hailey MacLeod, SR G, Ohio State (Abbotsford, BC)
In six January games, MacLeod went a perfect 6-0-0 with a 0.83 GAA and a save percentage of .966. She allowed a total of five goals in weekend sweeps of Minnesota Duluth and Penn State.

Women’s Defender of the Month: Kate Manness, Clarkson, FR D
(Winnipeg, MB)
Manness followed a 17-point December with a 17-point January, logging 3-14-17 (1.45 PPG) in a month where Clarkson went 8-2-1. She was a +14.

Women’s Rookie of the Month: Sara Manness, FR F, Clarkson
(Winnipeg, MB)
Manness exploded for 23 points in January with a line of 14-9-23 in 11 games. She had at least one point in each game and had nine multi-point games, including three multi-goal games. Clarkson went 8-2-1.
