Ward, Webster Lead HCA Monthly Honorees for October

Here are the first batch of men’s and women’s monthly honorees and runners-up as chosen by the Hockey Commissioners Association.
Men’s Player of the Month: Taylor Ward, SR Forward, Omaha (Kelowna, BC)
Ward averaged two points per game through October, finishing with 10-6-16 in eight games played. He had at least one point in every game.
Jack McBain, SR F, Boston College (Toronto, ON) (8 GP, 9-5-14, 1.75 PPG)
Louis Boudon, JR F, Lake Superior State (Grenoble, France) (10 GP, 6-10-16, 1.6 PPG)
Women’s Player of the Month: Makenna Webster, SO Forward, Wisconsin (St. Louis, MO)
Webster led the NCAA with 27 points (12-15-27) as the Badgers ran off 12 wins to start the season where the 2021 national champions left off. Scoring in 10 of 12 UW games, she had eight multi-point games. She also led the nation with a plus/minus rating of +23.
Danielle Serdachny, JR F, Colgate (Edmonton, AB) (10 GP, 9-6-15)
Men’s Rookie of the Month: Jakub Dobeš, FR Goalie, Ohio State (Ostrava, Czech Republic)
Dobeš was stingy in his five games, recording a GAA of 0.86 and a save percentage .964. His overall record was 4-1.
Devon Levi, SO* G, Northeastern (Dollard Des Ormeaux, PQ) (8 GP, 5-3-0, 1.76 GAA, .976, 4 ShO)
*Levi did not play a minute last year, his freshman year.
Massimo Rizzo, FR F, Denver
(Burnaby, BC) (6 GP, 5-3-8, 1.33 PPG)
Women’s Rookie of the Month: Vanessa Upson, FR Forward, Mercyhurst (Stoney Creek, ON)
This flashy forward went 8-8-16 in 13 games for the Lakers. Upson’s 1.23 points per game is tops among NCAA freshmen. She also led frosh in goals. assists, and points. She leads her team in goals (8) and points (16) and has shown some flash. Her GWG in overtime against RPI was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
Peyton Hemp, FR F, Minnesota (Andover, MN) (10 GP, 3-8-11)
Men’s Goaltender of the Month: Gavin Abric, SO Goalie, Army West Point (Hayward, WI)
Abric produced dazzling numbers in his six games played in October. His save percentage was .952 and his GAA was 1.67.
Dryden Mckay, SR G, Minnesota State (Downers Grove, IL) (8 GP, 1.77 GAA, 36-2-0, .908)
David Hrenek GR G, St. Cloud State (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) (7 GP, 1.37 GAA, 5-2-0, .943)
Emil Zetterquist, SR G, St. Lawrence (Stockholm, Sweden) (4 GP, 1.45 GAA, 1-1-2, .951)
Women’s Co-Goaltender of the Month: Aerin Frankel, GR Goalie, Northeastern (Briarcliff Manor, NY)
Frankel, the National Goalie of the Year in 2020-21, hasn’t lost a step. She led the Huskies to a 6-1 start with a GAA of 0.88 and a save percentage of .961. Included in those numbers are three shutouts.
Women’s Co-Goaltender of the Month: Suzette Faucher, SO G, Franklin Pierce (Middleton, WI)
Faucher had a small but impressive sampling of work. In her four games, she twice made 41 saves, once in a 4-0 shutout of Holy Cross and also in a 1-0 loss at Mercyhurst. In all, her stats were 0.76 GAA, 3-1-0 record and a save percentage of .976.
Kennedy Blair, SR, Wisconsin (Bismarck, ND) (0.94, .952, 11-0, four shutouts)
