Hockey Commissioners Launch First Website
Wednesday, November 3, 2021
The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) has launched a new website, the first for the 18-year-old organization. The site, hockeycommissioners.com, will house both the history of the HCA and news about the current work of the NCAA Division I ice hockey commissioners.
“The creation of the Hockey Commissioners Association website will provide great value to college hockey fans as a location that captures important history, awards and general news of the sport for both women and men,” said NCHC commissioner Josh Fenton, the president of the HCA. ”We look forward to adding great content in the future that showcases success of ice hockey student-athletes”
The site was launched with today’s announcement of the national men’s and women’s monthly honorees for October. Each month, a Player, Rookie and Goalie of the Month is chosen from nominees submitted by each conference’s media representative. An archive of past monthly honorees has been in-cluded on the new site, along with the history of the various end-of-seaon awards sponsored by the HCA. These include National Rookie of the Year and Goalie of the Year awards for both men and women, along with the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award.
Among other features:
- The history of the annual Ice Breaker Tournament.
- Updates on various legislative efforts sponsored or supported by the HCA. (To come.)
Beginning in the 1990s, the commissioners of the NCAA’s Division I ice hockey conferences began meeting regularly to discuss ways to grow the sport of college hockey. Their meetings and activities were formalized when the Hockey Commissioners Association was created in 2003. At first, the HCA dealt solely with men’s hockey issues. The Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association was formed in 2014 and remains active and influential in promoting women’s ice hockey today.
The site was developed by Dan Parkhurst and 867 Studios.
